Rodent Removal

Rodents are mammals with a single pair of continuously growing front-teeth in each of the upper and lower jaws. These extra-large front teeth are referred to as incisors. They will use these incisors for gnawing, to get at food, to excavate burrows, to help them find shelter, and to defend themselves. Most eat seeds or other plant material, but some have more varied diets.

About 40% of all mammal species are rodents. There are three main groups of rodents: squirrels, mouse-like rodents, and cavy-like rodents. Squirrels have long, flexible bodies. Mouse-like rodents have long whiskers on their pointed faces. Cavy-like rodents include guinea pigs, which have small, sturdy bodies and short tails.

Friendly Service

There are various signs that you may have a rodent infestation in your home. They will usually bring a musky odor with them that will worsen as the infestation increases. Another odor that may spread its way throughout your home can be that of a dead rodent that is rotting within your dwelling.

Rodents of all sizes will generally leave chew and bite marks on everything from wood to cardboard throughout your home, including baseboards and exposed wires. One of the most common signs of a rodent infestation is the presence of droppings. Mice droppings are usually no more than ¼” in length and are small, dark brown, with pointed ends. Rat droppings can be anywhere between ¾” and ½” long and vary in shape depending on the type of rat. These droppings can also cause allergic reactions in people, so be on the lookout if your allergies are acting up!

Mice and rats tend to also leave tracks and holes through the home. Tiny rodent footprints on dusty areas and holes in thin walls and materials are common occurrences with these pests. Along with tracks, they can often leave dirty grease marks in places where they have scurried through. Rodent fur can create streaks on the surfaces that they run across, especially if it is a place that they run through often, such as corners, or the entrances to holes and tight passageways.

Most rodent activity will be noisy. You’ll hear scampering, gnawing and scratching from your attic, from inside walls, and from ceilings. If you were to peek inside your attic, you may also find rodent nests in nooks and crannies. They’ll use torn paper, insulation, cloth and anything they can get to build their nests inside walls and in spaces where they are hoping to avoid being seen.
